BasketBALLAZ is a cancelled game developed by cflip and Logan's Laboratory, with graphics by Kjolt. It was created in Godot as a simple, short-term coding project, but was never finished due to lack of interest or ideas. Its title is a less formal spelling of "basket ballers", referring to the slang word "baller" for basketball players or excellence.

Gameplay

The gameplay of BasketBALLAZ is a simple 2-dimensional basketball-throwing game. The player clicks and drags their mouse from the basketball, which inversely determines the trajectory and force of the ball in a similar fashion to the slingshot in Angry Birds. The player must left click to respawn a still ball, and ghost arrow will indicate the last thrown direction of the ball afterward. When released, the ball will be thrown. The objective is to land the ball into the court's hoop as many times as possible within a time limit of 30 seconds. For every successful shot, the timer will increase by 10 seconds. If a certain threshold is reached, the next "phase" is initiated. This will enable an additional challenge, such as the ball being forced to spawn further from the hoop. If the timer runs out, the player will simply be asked to click again to restart.

Visuals

The game features a simplistic pixel art style. The background environment is flat-coloured and lineless, with the exception of the more detailed wooden boards of the court floor. This is to contrast the foreground elements, the basketball and the hoop, having outlines and basic lighting/shading to stand out. The court seen in the above screenshot is an earlier version and the updated, larger one was never implemented.

Trivia

  • An updated larger court and metal pole for the basketball hoop were made, but never added into a build of the game.
  • The game's title screen announces the title in a deep, reverberated voice. This was performed by rice fish.
  • The soundtrack of the game features only one song that plays constantly. It was composed by cflip with Rave Generator samples.
  • The basketball in this game would later be added to Bathroom Blocks as a variant of the purple bouncy ball. It is created by combining one with leather, and has both heavier physics and a unique bounce sound.
