Secret HOLY CRAP room found in New Super Mario Bros. is a video uploaded to Kjolt's channel on March 30th, 2025. It is video evidence of a secret room in New Super Mario Bros. being accessed after completing a sequence of specific tasks. The video's editing style invokes that of early YouTube videos covering similar topics, especially those made by kids. A successor video, New Super Mario Bros - hidden Snailicorn area? was posted a couple of weeks after.

HOLY CRAP Room

The titular "HOLY CRAP" room replaces the normal Star Coin subarea in level 1-5 of New Super Mario Bros. Mario or Luigi must reach the final platform before the flagpole without defeating a single enemy, and then must ground pound that pink mushroom platform thrice before backtracking. They must also ground pound each of the 4 scale platforms before the entrance warp pipe in order from furthest to closest. Then, the player may enter the hidden room.

In the video, Kjolt is unsure about why this room exists but finds it interesting despite its buggy nature. It uses the grey volcano tileset, cave background and scrolling transparent foreground clouds from the subarea this room overwrites. Instead of the bonus area music, it is replaced with ominous wind sounds, identical to those heard before Lakithunder's boss battle.

At the beginning of the room, the same moving mushroom platform from the original subarea is present, although many seemingly destroyed block formations obstruct the player's path forward. Some of the brick blocks lack collision on top, letting the player clip and fall through. Kjolt even fails to clear some of these in the video, re-entering afterward. Beyond this area is flat ground, above which the text "HOLY CRAP" is written in hard blocks. A square ledge just after these words lets the player easily grab the Star Coin. They may then exit by falling into a hole, or jump to the other side to obtain a single coin from a brick block.

Reception

The video's upload garnered relatively substantial attention following the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, earning Kjolt double the channel's previous subscriber count. Many commenters express their enjoyment of the video for being a clever parody, while others interpret it as something less serious. Users have asked if it is real, what the "lizard man" at 0:25 is, and why the room won't show up in their game. Some accuse Kjolt of being a malicious liar and a child for lack of official documentation, various misspellings and early internet/child-adjacent vocabulary.
