New Super Mario Bros - hidden Snailicorn area?

From Kjolt Wiki

"New Super Mario Bros - hidden Snailicorn area?" is a satirical video by Kjolt, uploaded to YouTube on April 13th, 2025. It is a successor to Secret HOLY CRAP room found in New Super Mario Bros., revolving around a similar premise and being inspired by the same genre of early game hoax videos on YouTube. The video is about Kjolt discovering a secret challenge room in New Super Mario Bros following, the events of the previous installment in real time. Kjolt has also become aware of the reception to the last video calling it fake, insisting that these findings are indeed real.

The focus on Snailicorns and repeated use of the word "epic" within the video and comments are an allusion to A Bit of Epicness, an online artist, YouTuber and friend of Kjolt.

When displaying text between gameplay footage, the music of choice is "Magnetic Circuit" (otherwise known as "calm4.ogg"), an early scrapped song for Minecraft composed by Notch himself.

Snailicorn Room

In order to reach the hidden room, Mario or Luigi must progress through the level 5-3 without collecting any coins until they are met with the first Snailicorn. Then, the enemy must be ground-pounded in such a way that it is moved over the first gap and lands successfully on the other side. Kjolt accidentally knocks it down after jumping back over, but this does not have an affect once the condition has already been fulfilled. After this, the player can return to the green pipe in the floor earlier in the level to enter a secret room.

The room uses the bonus tileset and cave background, paired with ambient echoed dripping in place of music. It contains a series of platforms and pipes over pits inside a narrow room, topped with Snailicorns that make the jumps more risky. At the end, the room appears more run-down as broken pipes and bare metal blocks take over the palette. To the right is a Snailicorn trapped between brick walls, and spelled out above in small red ground tiles is the phrase "GO AWAY". In the video, Kjolt curiously jumps onto the letters, causing an image of a dark red tunnel to overlay the screen and distressing sounds to play (referred to as "the red scare"). It ends as soon as Mario jumps off, and the room is fled swiftly after.
